Evaluation of controlled hydroxychloroquine releasing performance from calcium-alginate beads

The aim of this study was to develop an effective controlled drug delivery system based on alginate beads for the treatment autoimmune diseases such as Rheumatoid Arthritis (RA) and Systemic Lupus Erythematosus (SLE). present describes systems control uses hydroxychloroquine (HCQ) by Ca-alginate beads. characterization techniques were employed evaluate physicochemical properties scanning electron microscopy (SEM), swelling test (S), hydrolytic degradation (weight loss, WL) Fourier transform infrared-attenuated total reflection (FTIR-ATR). release studies from prepared in various dose carried out aqueous solutions at different pH (5–8) temperature (4-37oC). approximately half-amount HCQ HCQ-AB3 released 12 h about 84.38% within 8 days. Kinetic model, Korsmeyer-Peppas applied model kinetic beads, which corresponded non-Fickian transport mechanism.
